The Brief

What They Needed

Gravel Direct supplies and delivers aggregates, paving, timber and tools to trade and DIY customers around Castleford. They needed a shop that could carry everything from bagged aggregates and decorative stone to timber and plant hire, stay easy to browse, and take payment online instead of relying on phone orders.

The Challenge

What Made It Tricky

Building materials do not fit a neat product grid. Some lines sell by weight, some by the bag, and paving comes in several sizes and colours with a different price for each. The store needed selectable options, a way for customers to work out how much they actually need, and a checkout that feels as safe as a card machine on the counter, because most first-time buyers had never ordered aggregates online.

The Approach

What We Actually Built

01

WooCommerce, organised by category

Construction Materials, Decorative Stone, Paving and Landscaping, Timber, Plant and Tool Hire, and Tools and Equipment, each with its own category page.

02

Built-in aggregates calculator

Customers work out the quantity they need before adding to basket, so fewer wrong orders and fewer “how much do I need?” phone calls.

03

Variable products that make sense

Paving and slate in multiple sizes, colours and price bands sit under one product with selectable options, not dozens of near-identical listings.

04

Stripe and trust signals where people hesitate

Secure card payments via Stripe, with the review rating and delivery and payment badges placed right at the add-to-basket moment.

05

Delivery set up for heavy materials

Local delivery options configured for bulky building materials rather than standard parcel courier rules.

The Result

What's Live Today

Gravel Direct now runs day to day on the site, from browsing to checkout to customer accounts. Trade and DIY customers find what they need without picking up the phone, the 5.0 review rating sits front and centre, and Stripe takes card payments without anyone reading card numbers down the line.
